In a bater&amp;#195;&amp;#173;a, there are at least three &lt;em&gt;surdos&lt;/em&gt;, playing three different patterns. With their deep bass, &lt;em&gt;surdos&lt;/em&gt; are used to keep time and form the backbone of the music.
