Sambiesta (sam-bi-es-ta) is one of the few percussion bands in Singapore that plays Afro-Brazilian percussion, otherwise more commonly known as samba.

Made up of young and energetic music enthusiasts, its players came together in 2005 to pick up this unique genre of music from scratch. Sambiesta was incepted in 2007 and the few years of playing experience not only included a wide range of local gigs in various events and at all sorts of venues, but also the opportunity to wow crowds abroad..

The band specializes in fusing modern funk, drum and bass and other unique beats with the traditional and ethnic Afro-Brazilian samba. Genres of Afro-Brazilian beats include samba batucada, samba reggae, Bahian funk and afoxe. The instruments, mostly shipped from Brazil itself, consist of the surdos, caixas, repinique, tamborim, agogo bells and chocalho.

Sambiesta is always delighted to perform and promises to deliver exciting, energetic and impactful live performances with its special blend of music. The infectious and pulsating rhythms are sure to get everyone grooving along!

Locally the band has performed in numerous corporate gigs, ranging from company events, ceremonies, road shows, product launches and private functions. Sambiesta was also one of the few percussion groups featured in Singapore Arts Festival 2008.

The performance area should be big enough to hold 12 to 14 players. The band usually performs fully acoustic and microphones are generally not needed. In the case of large open areas and big crowds, approximately 8 microphones may be needed.
